The Facebook Group Rules Template Every Admin Should Steal
8 July 2026 · 5 min read
Most Facebook Group rules are either a novel nobody reads or three vague lines that don't help when something actually goes wrong. You want something short enough to finish, specific enough to point at, and public enough that people see it before they request to join.
Steal this structure
Keep it to six sections. Add or drop one if your group needs it.
- What this group is for. One or two sentences. If you can't say it plainly, members won't either.
- Who it's for. Parents of players at this club, residents of this area, people who collect watches — be explicit.
- How to behave. No pile-ons, no selling without asking, no sharing other people's photos without consent.
- What not to post. The three things you already delete every week. Write them down.
- How to get help. Who to message, and what to use the group for instead of a DM.
- What happens if you break a rule. A warning, then a mute or removal. Don't improvise in public.
Put the rules where people actually look
A pinned post from 2023 is not a rules page. Facebook buries it. A public page with a Rules & Guidelines section sits in the same place as your FAQs and join button, so prospective members can read expectations before they request access.

Keep it editable
Rules change when the group grows. Update the page when you add a co-admin, a new age group, or a new "please don't". You don't need a new pinned comment every time.
Your Facebook Group stays on Facebook. The page sits alongside it as the copy you can share. Facebook Group admin tools on joinour.group include a rules section for exactly this.
